Excerpts are blended through an ingenious stop-and-go mechanism generating overlaps of between two and eight excerpts of varying durations. It can also use other variables, such as source volume, onset and disappearance intensity envelope, and excerpt length, speed, or pitch. The variables may be controlled by performers and improvisers or through a graphic interface or physical installation. The interactions can be structured through a conceptual system provided by other artists or through continuous more- or less-controlled aleatory processes.
