Mécanisme de réanimation no 5

Manon Labrecque

Installation

For her installation, Mécanisme de réanimation no 5, Manon Labrecque drew her inspiration from movement as a means of depicting vulnerability and human strength, deconstruction, and reconstruction.

An image was projected onto a multitude of small moving mirrors, which reflected it onto a wall. The mirrors moved in an intermittent loop, causing the image to fragment and shift while at the same time emitting a series of small sound events. It was an ingenious device whose impulses called to mind the banal gestures and routine actions we repeat thousands of times over and through which we are continuously called on to reinvent ourselves.

Mécanisme de réanimation No 5 was presented in Quebec City as part of Mois Multi 10 (2009).

The Mois Multi is an event produced and organized by the Productions Recto-Verso in February each year. The festival’s program gathers innovative works in the field of multidisciplinary and electronic arts. The Mois Multi is intended as an expression of the conceptual and technological mutations that shake up the unexpected forms and practices of multidisciplinary art. Its uniqueness stems from its interactive shows, installations, immersive environments and works merging artistic languages, materials, techniques, forms and processes of all kinds.
