Performance

Virginie Laganière, Avatar curator for 2009–2010, developed ArchitecSonic, an in situ sound-art project designed to bring to life a particular place, an architectural environment unrelated to art.

Vancouver-based Samuel Roy-Bois was commissioned to turn sound material into architecture in such a way that in the act of listening it initiates either a dialogue or negation of the intervention site.

The artist used an ordinary apartment as the main setting, turning it into a material extension of a performer asleep in it, alone, on a mattress on the floor. Égarement examines the limits of intimacy by linking the private world of an apartment to that of the physical and psychic body, zooming in on the smallest possible unit of privacy—the inner life.
