Souffles

Diane Morin

Installation

Souffles is a video and sound installation made by Diane Morin as part of her Effondrements series.

It ran at the Avatar studio from May 3 to June 3, 2012, as part of Manif d’art 6. Souffles is a series of experimental pyrotechnics in hollow, translucent containers, which shape the ephemeral illumination Morin was interested in. The successive microexplosions collapse together the animate and inanimate, the act of appearance and disappearance in a fleeting flash. In it, Morin comes close to the dream of certain 19th century automaton builders, for whom fire was the life substance—the living breath—of the devices they invented. (After Nicole Gingras.)
