Dans la tête

2013

Biography

A Franco-Italian artist, Lorella Abenavoli creates interdisciplinary installations that draw upon biology, physics, acoustics and programming, which the artist combines with spatial “plastic” practices. Often based on sound, her works over the past decade have featured the imperceptible rhythms of the Earth, trees, cosmic particles, bodies. Her works have been exhibited in Europe, the United States and Canada. The recipient of a bursary from the Fonds québécois de la recherche sur la nature et les technologies, she arrived in Quebec in 2007 to pursue her doctoral studies at the Université du Québec à Montréal. Among the aims of the artist’s research is to define the place of “sonification” in the visual and media arts. A lecturer at the Université du Québec à Montréal, Abenavoli has also written articles on sound art. She is currently working on the creation of audio works that reveal the internal movements of the human body.
