CAROLINE GAGNÉ

CARGO (4:44)

2011

Biography

The works of Caroline Gagné reflect her deep commitment to her artistic practice, as well as a consistent line of research begun in 1998, following a degree in visual arts from the Université Laval. Drawing, wired art, installation and sound art have punctuated her variegated path, oriented by a set of solid, recurrent themes. The artist collaborates regularly with sound artist Patrice Coulombe for the digital conception of her media art projects (...les sentiers battus, Les erres), as well as for dual projects. In this context, the two artists share their sensibilities regarding space and the adjacent territories of sound and image. Their first co-creation, Ligne de flottaison, was completed in 2007 as part of a residency at the Daïmon Centre in Gatineau, and presented in 2008 at VU PHOTO in Quebec City. Their second work, Écluse, was shown at the Art Souterrain event in Montreal in 2010, as well as at the Ligne de fuite exhibition at the Galerie des arts visuels in Quebec City in 2009. Highly active within her community, Caroline Gagné is currently associated with the artist-run centres Avatar, Folie/Culture and Est-Nord-Est, and was formerly a member of the 3e impérial and LA CHAMBRE BLANCHE collectives. In addition, she has undertaken several artist residencies, as well as solo and group exhibitions in Quebec and abroad. In 2010, a commission from Avatar led to the creation of CARGO, whose presentation at L’Œil de Poisson during Mois Multi 12 earned her an Arts & Culture Award of Excellence from the City of Quebec. Caroline Gagné obtained an MFA in interdisciplinary art from the Université Laval in 2012. She lives and works in Quebec City.
