Biographies

Sophie Castonguay devises performative works that incorporate the words of audience members. Through the use of narrative modes, the artist attempts to create interferences in the reception of the work, as well as in the perception of the site. Her works have been presented at various exhibition centres in Quebec, Toronto and Europe. She is currently working on her PhD in art studies and practices at the Université du Québec à Montréal, where she has taught at the École des arts visuels et médiatiques since 2008.

Mathieu Marcoux is a composer of electroacoustic music. He completed his studies at the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal, primarily under Yves Daoust and Serge Provost, and then in Sweden at the Musikhögskolan in Göteborg with Åke Parmerud. Beginning with his earliest pieces, Marcoux has focused on the human voice, which he regards as a key raw material. For the artist, it is a sound print, unique to each individual; the special status it has in our aural register makes it a rich source of meaningful interactions between acoustic and synthetic sounds.
