Biography

Alexandre St-Onge is a sound artist, improvisational musician (double bass, bass, voice and electronic music) and sound performer. After studies in literature and philosophy, he is now working on his doctorate in the arts. He is fascinated by creativity as a pragmatic approach to perceiving the imperceptible. He has released ten solo recordings: viorupeeeeihean (Oral), Ailleurs (&records), Aimer la concrescence (MiniAlbum/Absence Of Wax), Entités (Oral), Joseph Carey Merrick (MiniAlbum/Oral), Mon animal est possible (Alien8 Recordings), L’amitié ou les rumeurs insoutenables du désir (squint fucker press), kasi naigo (squint fucker press), Une mâchoire et deux trous (Namskeio Records) and Image/négation (Alien8 Recordings). He also plays in several groups: K.A.N.T.N.A.G.A.N.O., Klaxon Gueule, Les esprits frappeurs, mineminemine, Pink Saliva, Shalabi Effect and Undo. As a sound designer, St-Onge has worked with the media art company kondition pluriel, and with such artists as Marie Brassard, Karine Denault, Lynda Gaudreau, Line Nault, Jérémie Niel, Maryse Poulin and Mariko Tanabe.

About the work

This piece, -1-1+2, is a remix of my work /-/, released on the record OHMIX (Ohm éditions/Avatar/AVTR022) in 2001. First of all, I remixed this work with a digital device controlled by an improvisation performed on an electric bass. This remix was also sampled in real time by another digital device and transformed by the instrument.
