For her project Entends-tu l’osmose s’inverser ?, the sound artist imagined the possibility of revealing the audio traceability of a food product. With the support of Avatar, Magali Babin is making recordings in a maple grove. Located between the sound postcard and the noisy documentary, the audio creation suggests what we can not see by imagining the maple syrup journey from one end of the agri-food machinery to the other.

Magali Babin is a sound artist and curator of audio art events. She is interested in the exploration of space as sound material. Between the haptic proximity, the acoustic landscape and the contexts of life, Babin draws its materials and creates atmospheres made of sequences, textures, and perspectives. She has appeared in concert at international electronic music festivals in Canada, the United States and Europe. Her sound installations were presented at the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal (as part of the Triennale québécoise) in 201, at Mois Multi (Québec City) in 2012, at the Louise-et-Reuben-Cohen Art Gallery of Montréal. Université de Moncton in 2012 and La Fabrique (Nantes, France) in 2013. She was welcomed in residency by various contemporary art centers in Québec City – including Recto-Verso, Avatar, 3e Imperial, Studio XX, Dare- Dare – and in France – Compagnie Ouïe-Dire. In 2013 she received the Odyssée grant from the French Ministry of Culture and Communication for a research residency at La Saline Royale (Arc-et-Senans, France). She is currently pursuing a PhD in Arts Studies and Practices at UQAM. She is a fellow of the Fonds Société et culture du Québec (FRQSC).
