VEX Christof Migone, Michel F. Côté, Gregory Whitehead, Louis Ouellet (1998)
VEX was the brainchild of Christof Migone, one of Avatar’s founders. It was born in “vexations” with the works of Satie, Deleuze, and Artaud and in encounters between these works and those of Christof Migone, Michel F. Côté, Gregory Whitehead, and Louis Ouellet. The disk is divided into three sections of concrete mix based on the three contemporary French heroes. VEX is a meeting place for and series of sound accidents, strategies, and tactics coalescing—musique concrète filled with humour and linguistic experiment.
VEX was launched on March 13, 1999, at Avatar’s Soirée à tympans pulsifs (Night of Pulsing Eardrums). The pieces were also broadcast September 19, 1999, on L’espace du son, hosted by Mario Gauthier, on Radio-Canada’s Chaîne culturelle.
