A radio sound work as part of a major publication project !
Last November, Avatar welcomed Chantal Dumas who is beginning the creation of a radio sound work as part of a major publication project on her practice. In addition to a printed book with texts by established authors of the discipline who examine her path, three sound artists have been invited to dive in a dialogue with her universe: Anna Friz, Carole Rieussec, and Erin Sexton. Avatar will invite you to discover this project with major unprecedented works and texts in the year 2019!
About Chantal Dumas
A sound artist, Chantal Dumas creates sound installations, radio documentary fictions (Hörspiel), sound designs. She is also a composer. Her work holds a participative dimension and feeds off collaborations with visual arts, dance, and poetry. A fan of Field Recording, she collects sounds to draw raw material for her productions. Her radio production (Hörspiel) to this day includes more than 30 tracks that have been broadcasted by public radio stations such as ABC, BBC, France Musique, Sveriges Radio, the RAI, ART on AIR (NYC). She was part of the exhibition C’est arrivé près de chez vous at the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec, and at the FIMAV (2012 and 2014 editions). In 2011, she went for a stay at the Studio du Québec in New York (CALQ) and in the fall of 2016, at the Récollets in Paris (CALQ). Her work has been granted the Prix Opus – catégorie concert électroacoustique et musique actuelle by the Conseil québécois de la musique (Québec), as well as the Czech Prix Bohemia Radio and the Phonurgia Nova award (France).
