To showcase the audio archives OHM éditions had built up between 1993 and 1998, Avatar asked eight composers to sample, process, or remix sections or entire works any way they wanted.

To showcase the audio archives OHM éditions had built up between 1993 and 1998, Avatar asked eight composers to sample, process, or remix sections or entire works any way they wanted. The approaches and interpretations were as different as expected. In OHMIX, Avatar was metamorphosed, transformed, and reconstituted with new parts. The artists, from Ralf Wehowsky to Alexandre St-Onge, took aim, selected an angle of attack, and staked out a position to generate a revelation and sound event. The resulting hybrids are sharing writ large and amplified—rich readings that take shape as each auditory sensibility comes into focus.

OHMIX weaves together related yet dispersed proclivities. These artists have created a new genre by enlisting other artists’ sounds in their own work, mining disparate recordings to construct music the likes of which have never been heard before.

OHMIX was broadcast in November 2001 on the program Le Navire Night, produced by Hélène Prévost, on Radio-Canada’s Chaîne culturelle.
