Mormorii
Fiona Annis
Fiona Annis is in residency for the development of the exhibition Mormorii that will be held from November 9 to December 17 at the Galerie des arts visuels de l’Université Laval in Québec City.
Fiona Annis uses a wide range of media and hybrid technologies, including sound, to explore the tensions between concept and material, and to select processes and rhythms that amplify ideas. Her current research at Avatar is in line with the development of her project Mormorii, which is about to be exhibited at the Galerie des arts visuels, in Québec City. It consists of a series of lullabies recorded by the artist. The pulsations and the rhythms of the voice produce a transition from one state to another, an echo that seems to emerge from an older time.
Born in Glasgow, Scotland in 1983 and raised in Manitoba, Fiona Annis currently lives and works in Montreal, Quebec. Fiona has presented exhibitions nationally and internationally at artist-run centers, galleries and museums including: The AC Institute (New York City), The Canadian Centre for Architecture (Montreal) Goldsmith’s University (London), LowSalt Gallery (Glasgow), Gallery44 (Toronto), VU Photo (Québec City) and The Art Gallery of Alberta (Edmonton). Her work has been published in journals and catalogues including: Public, BlackFlash, Front, and Imagining Science, winner of the New York Book Show Award. Her work is featured in the permanent collection of the Musée de la civilisation in Québec City, the Penumbra Foundation in New York City, and at Rad’Art Project in Italy. Fiona pursues an ongoing collaboration with The Society of Affective Archives, with upcoming projects that include a large-scale public art commission on the Mount Royal Park in the City of Montreal.
