Making the World Safe for Piezoelectricity
Making the World Safe for Piezoelectricity Ron Kuivila (1997)

Distinguished artist Ron Kuivila designed a piece for Avatar that featured no fewer than 720 electronic timers suspended from a ceiling.

The result was a massive sound installation entitled Making the World Safe for Piezoelectricity.

Visitors literally strolled through the piece, as if in the heart of a machine dreamed up by a megalomaniac clockmaker. The timers were programed so that their chimes sounded randomly and continuously, and their alarms would go off in unison every six minutes.
