Dérive
Dérive François Quévillon (2012)

Dérive was an interactive installation that invited spectators to explore models of cities and geographic locations that changed based on environmental data collected on the Internet.

Dérive was an interactive installation that invited spectators to explore models of cities and geographic locations that changed based on environmental data collected on the Internet. An artificial vision interface allowed the audience to interact with the images, whose appearance and recognisability were determined by current meteorological and astronomic information from the place in the city or the place they were considering. In addition to the visual model, data transmitted by remote environmental sensors was also translated into acoustic signals.

This project began in 2010 during the Géographies variables residency program. In 2012 Avatar hosted François Quévillon for the follow-up to his project as part of an exchange with the Museum of Sounds and Images in São Paulo, Brazil, and partnerships with La Bande Vidéo and La Chambre Blanche.
