"De choses et d’autres", a Samuel St-Aubin’s exhibition, shown at Avatar for Mois Multi 16 festival.
Samuel St-Aubin uses objects diverted from their daily use and natural phenomenons such as evaporation, gravity and inertia to make kinetic sculptures. In infinite repetitions, sequences of movements performed with precision and put in relation with materials as well as gravitation become subjects of experimentation. These tools-machines are put through exercises of balance, strength and happenstance, revealing the duality between the unpredictable behavior of the often fickle and chaotic materials and the implacable consistent control that electronic apparatus have over them.
Samuel St-Aubin’s practice combines technology and a study of the behavior of materials. As part of his residency at Avatar before the festival, he is pursuing his research for "De choses et d’autres", a body of kinetic sculptures that he has been developing since 2012 and which have been presented in parts at various exhibitions and events in the province of Quebec and abroad.
